JPMorgan to Hire More AI Specialists While Cutting Traditional Bankers Amid AI Era

ITHome, May 21 — Bloomberg reported on the same day that JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon stated the bank will ramp up recruitment of AI professionals and scale down headcount of traditional bankers amid accelerating AI adoption.
"In the long run, AI will definitely lower our overall staffing demands. Brand-new job roles will emerge across the financial industry. We will hire more AI specialists for specific business lines and gradually cut banker positions. AI will also greatly boost productivity of existing employees," Dimon said.
Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters previously sparked widespread controversy by claiming AI would replace low-value human labor. Dimon commented on the remarks, admitting Winters’ wording was inappropriate, and noting AI will exert profound impacts on all financial jobs.
Dimon held a prudent stance on layoffs. He said financial institutions can achieve steady business transformation driven by AI via natural attrition, instead of massive redundancies. As AI penetrates jobs at all levels and expands from back-office routine work to high-value businesses, numerous new positions will be created, especially front-end customer service roles.
JPMorgan registers an annual staff turnover rate of around 10 percent, with roughly 25,000 to 30,000 employees leaving the company each year. The flexible workforce turnover enables the bank to retrain current staff, arrange cross-department transfers and offer generous early retirement packages.
Dimon also warned of social challenges brought by technological upgrades. "Rapid technological advancement requires financial firms and the whole society to carefully assess and properly tackle potential ripple effects."

据IT之家了解,戴蒙对裁员的态度更为审慎。金融机构完全可以通过员工自然流失机制平稳度过 AI 带来的业务转型期,无需诉诸大规模暴力裁员。即使 AI 技术正全面渗透到各个层级的岗位,并从后台基础执行工作向高附加值业务延伸,AI 依然会释放出大量全新岗位,尤其是在直接面向客户的前台服务领域。

戴蒙透露,摩根大通目前的年均员工流失率维持在 10% 左右,每年大约有 25000 至 30000 名员工自然离职。凭借充足的流转空间,摩根大通拥有极大的灵活性去重新培训现有人员、跨部门分派调岗或为老员工提供优厚的提前退休方案。

针对技术转型可能带来的社会阵痛,戴蒙也明确发出了警告。“如果技术迭代速度过快,不管是金融企业自身还是整个社会体系,都有绝对义务去审慎思考并妥善解决潜在的连锁反应。”
