IT Home reported on August 31 that according to Mark Gurman, a journalist at Bloomberg, John Ternus, Apple’s current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, will officially assume the role of Chief Executive Officer on September 1 local time. Artificial intelligence will be the top priority of his tenure.
On August 23, Apple held a farewell gathering for current CEO Tim Cook at the Apple Park campus. Approximately 200 guests attended the event, which featured a live performance by the band OneRepublic. As planned, Cook will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, where he will continue to oversee communications with global policymakers and other related matters.
Born in 1975, John Ternus joined Apple’s product design team in 2001 and was promoted to Vice President of Hardware Engineering in 2013. He joined the executive team in 2021 as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. During his tenure at Apple, Ternus has overseen the hardware engineering for numerous groundbreaking products across multiple product categories.
As previously reported by IT Home, Apple will hold its fall product launch event on September 9 local time (1:00 a.m. Beijing time on September 10) under the theme "Surprise and Shine." This will be the first product launch event following Ternus’s official appointment as CEO on September 1. The event is expected to unveil the next-generation iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as a new Ultra-series foldable device.
